About Miguel

Miguel was 14 when he crossed alone after his family in Oaxaca could no longer afford to feed him. He was processed in Tucson and placed with a sponsor in Phoenix. Investigators later found he had been working 12-hour shifts at a food processing plant in violation of child labor laws. He disappeared from the worksite in late 2022 and has not been located since.

Miguel was mature beyond his years — responsible, hardworking, and deeply caring about his family back home. He sent money home whenever he could. He loved basketball and was teaching himself English from YouTube videos. He had a quiet sense of humor and was known for his wide, warm smile.
