Sofia crossed the border as an unaccompanied minor in March 2021 after traveling alone from Guatemala. She was processed at the El Paso facility and placed with a sponsor in the Dallas area. Follow-up welfare checks were never completed. Her family in Guatemala has not heard from her since April 2021.
